JSIP Committee

Christine Lee
Co-Chair

Dr. Christine M. Lee is a research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the Water and Ecosystems Group, specializing in satellite remote sensing for coastal and inland water quality, environmental hazards, and marine ecosystem monitoring. Her research focuses on the land-water interface, utilizing thermal infrared and optical remote sensing to study post-fire impacts on water quality, sediment and nutrient fluxes, coral reef thermal stress, and coastal pollution tracking to support public health and ecosystem management.

Yu Gu
Co-Chair

Dr. Yu Gu is an Associate Director of the Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE) and an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, UCLA. Her research interests cover the areas of atmospheric aerosol, radiation, and cloud processes and their interactions, as well as improving their representations in weather and climate models and evaluating their climate effects. Dr. Gu is an Editor of Geophysical Research Letters, and an Associate Editor of Journal of Geophysical Research -Atmospheres and Frontiers in Environmental Science. She has recently been elected as a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS).

Bin Guan
Committee Member

Dr. Bin Guan is a UCLA Project Scientist affiliated with JPL. With a background in atmospheric and oceanic science, his research centers around high-impact weather and climate events and their interdisciplinary implications. He is currently serving on the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Committee on Climate Variability and Change, and the drafting committee for updating the AMS Statement on Weather Analysis and Forecasting.
